<DIV class=TextLine> 今年<A href="http://www.phoer.net/custom/festival/calendar.htm">农历</A><A href="http://www.phoer.net/custom/festival/08.htm">八月</A>十三日，是<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>一百周年诞辰，为了深切缅怀<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>崇高的人格、僧格、国格，颂扬他对<A href="http://www.phoer.net/buddhism/index.htm" target=_blank><FONT class=buddhism>佛教</FONT></A>僧团建设和<A href="http://www.phoer.net/buddhism/index.htm" target=_blank><FONT class=buddhism>佛教</FONT></A>教育事业的卓越贡献，继承和发扬其爱国爱教精神和人间<A href="http://www.phoer.net/buddhism/index.htm" target=_blank><FONT class=buddhism>佛教</FONT></A>思想，从而促进当前僧团的信仰建设、道风建设、组织建设、制度建设和人才建设，使<A href="http://www.phoer.net/buddhism/index.htm" target=_blank><FONT class=buddhism>佛教</FONT></A>与社会主义社会相适应，为世界和平、社会和谐、人心和悦做出更大的贡献。经乐山市佛教协会四届二次常务理事会议决定，四川省佛教协会和乐山宗教事务局批准，定于今天「<A href="http://www.phoer.net/custom/festival/calendar.htm">农历</A><A href="http://www.phoer.net/custom/festival/08.htm">八月</A>二十五日」在<A href="http://www.phoer.net/geography/leshan/index.htm">乐山</A>市的<A href="http://www.phoer.net/travel/leshan/si_wuyou.htm">乌尤寺</A>隆重举行<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>诞辰一百周年纪念活动。<BR> 今天，国内名山大刹的高僧大德，佛学院校的代表，佛教内外的专家学者、统战、宗教部门的各级领导以及<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>的生前故交、学生、弟子将聚集<A href="http://www.phoer.net/travel/leshan/si_wuyou.htm">乌尤寺</A>，隆重纪念一代高僧，这是四川<A href="http://www.phoer.net/buddhism/index.htm" target=_blank><FONT class=buddhism>佛教</FONT></A>届的一大盛事。<BR> 今天，在<A href="http://www.phoer.net/geography/leshan/index.htm">乐山</A>市的<A href="http://www.phoer.net/travel/leshan/si_wuyou.htm">乌尤寺</A>举行纪念活动，隆重纪念当代高僧、佛学家、<A href="http://www.phoer.net/buddhism/index.htm" target=_blank><FONT class=buddhism>佛教</FONT></A>教育家<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>诞辰一百周年。<BR> 纪念活动由四川省佛教协会主办，由<A href="http://www.phoer.net/geography/leshan/index.htm">乐山</A>市的<A href="http://www.phoer.net/travel/leshan/si_wuyou.htm">乌尤寺</A>、<A href="http://www.phoer.net/geography/chengdu/xindu.htm">新都</A>区的<A href="http://www.phoer.net/travel/chengdu/si_baoguang.htm">宝光寺</A>承办，由成都市佛教协会、乐山市<A href="http://www.phoer.net/geography/leshan/buddhism.htm">佛教协会</A>、峨眉山佛教协会、四川尼众佛学院、四川峨眉山佛学院协办。<BR> 纪念活动在一年半前就开始策划了，在2005-3-22日后不久，<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/m/manlin.htm">满霖法师</A>就把详细的活动方案（征求意见稿）发给了我。<BR> 纪念活动由三大系列活动组成：一是在<A href="http://www.phoer.net/travel/leshan/si_wuyou.htm">乌尤寺</A>大雄宝殿隆重举行<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>追思法会，由四川省佛教协会会长和副会长主法。二是在乌尤山下广场隆重举行<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>纪念大会。三是在山湾宾馆举行<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>生平、业绩、<A href="http://www.phoer.net/buddhism/index.htm" target=_blank><FONT class=buddhism>佛教</FONT></A>思想座谈会。<BR> 在昨夜下榻的乌尤山下的仙岛大酒店吃完早饭后，我们一行立即上山，参加第一场<A href="http://www.phoer.net/people/b/bianneng.htm">遍能法师</A>追思法会的活动。</DIV><BR>

一：缘起
大约在1993年5至6月顷，遍老为四川省佛学院学生讲授过怡山禅师所著《怡山发愿文》，笔者不聪，于遍老讲授的内容已所记无几，但遍老当时在课堂上谆谆教诲之意，言及佛教现状的严肃神情，历历在目，至今难忘。就是在讲授完这篇《怡山发愿文》后，遍老将要去文殊院出席四川省佛教协会第五届代表会议。遍老离开宝光寺前，再一次来到课堂，口占“佛教正需才，劝诸君努力学修，切莫为名僵利锁”一句出上联，要求全体学生为对下联。但就当时学生文史知识的修为，谁能不辱教命呢？据我所知，学生中无一人能为对，后来老师中有为对下联的，听说终未合遍老心意。
十余年后的今天，忆及此桩往事，真为当年的年幼无知感到羞愧。现在自己在经历了不少的人和事以后，慢慢地体会出，此联是遍老的心声，是遍老在开示法要。既包含了遍老对当前佛教的焦虑，又感受到遍老对僧伽人才的无限厚望。
东来受生，西去入定，遍老往生已近十年。时过境迁，人事非故，昔日师友，多已分散。适逢遍老百年诞辰之际，笔者愚钝，不揣浅陋，尝试走进遍老的内心世界，从遍老生前曾经要求学生为对的遗联中，感知遍老对僧才的渴望和期许，愿与当年师友共勉，以告慰遍老于常寂光中！
二：僧伽教育的意义──佛教正需才
佛教在经历了两汉的传入期，魏晋的消化期，隋唐的兴盛期，五代宋的延续期后，至明清时代，已逐渐走向江河日下的低谷。就其主要原因，跟僧伽人才的整体素质下降不无关系。虽然明清时期仍有不少高僧在支撑着佛教的命脉，但僧团的整体素质已普遍下降，真正意义上的龙象之才已凋零无几，从而导致了明清佛教的衰落局面。
至二十世纪初，教内有志之士已强烈感受到了这种局势的严峻。特别是上世纪佛教复兴运动的领袖──太虚大师，以其睿智和悲愿，为扭转僧才奇缺的现状，率先推出以现代学院式结合传统书斋式教育为一体的佛学院教育，先后创办武昌佛学院、汉藏教理院、闽南佛学院等著名佛教学府，以此来培养僧伽人才，推动佛教的振兴和发展。也正因为有太虚大师的苦心经营，上世纪的中国佛教曾出现过复兴的气象！
纵观遍老一生，几乎也与佛教教育分不开。不仅他自己的成长与佛学院的教育分不开，同时，他还一生推动佛学院的兴办。就他自身而言，先后就读过四川佛学院、北平柏林佛学研究社；他还先后执教过华岩佛学院，重庆川东佛学院、汉藏教理院；四川尼众佛学院；创办宝光僧学校；乐山市僧伽培训班，峨眉山佛学院，四川省佛学院。他一生之所以如此心系佛教教育，这与他不仅是太虚大师思想的追随者，更是太虚大师思想的实践者是分不开的。他一生曾两度谒见太虚大师，深受太虚大师思想的影响和感召。他深知，离开僧伽人才的培养，佛教的发展和弘扬几乎无法想象。
记得笔者在四川佛学院学习时，遍老只要在宝光寺，每天都要坚持至少两次到佛学院巡视，或到课堂督促，或到宿舍关心学生的生活，无一不全现出老人对僧伽人才的关爱和期望。就连病中住院期间，弥留之际，仍惦记着僧伽人才的培养工作，“我重托你们一件事情，不论遇到多大的困难，佛学院一定要坚持办下去，佛学院是佛教的命根啊！如果不高度重视佛教教育事业，不逐步提高僧人的文化素质，道德修养，正知、正见、正行，佛教寺院就会演变成为文盲的佛教……”（见《遍能法师传》476页）这是病中的遍老对前来看望他的佛学院老师的一番嘱托。话语中，流露出遍老对佛教教育、佛教僧才、佛教现状的忧心。但是遍老的这一心思，想来是由来已久，早在93年时，就以“佛教正需才”一语，来表达自己对佛教的发展和僧才培养的焦虑之情！因为遍老深知僧伽教育对于当代佛教的建设和发展有着重要的意义。
三：僧才的教育原则──劝诸君努力学修
佛教两千年的传播过程中，既表现出外在的文化性，又包含内在的修证性。佛教传播中的这种双重性，就决定了佛教的学习不仅是文化层面的知识积累，更要求注重修证层面的经验实践。佛弟子在这两个层面的学习和功夫都不可偏废。
天台藕益大师在《教观纲宗》一书中指出：“有教无观则罔，有观无教则怠。”教，就是指对佛教理论的研究和学习；观，就是指要用实际修证来实践佛陀的教义。
从藕益大师的论述中，我们可以感受到，佛弟子在学习佛法的过程中，不但要注重教理的学习，更要注重内在的修证。教理的学习是要佛教徒从明理而树立正信、正见，内在的修证是要佛教徒通过实践而树立正行。从总体上说，这不仅是以藕益大师的主张及论述，更是佛教真正精神对所有佛教徒的要求。
1992年全国汉传佛教教育工作座谈会在上海举行，会上，与会大德遵照佛教的精神和传统，提出了佛学院在僧才培养的过程中，应该秉承“学修一体化”的原则，要引导年青僧伽在学习中，将对佛教知识和教理的学习与个人的宗教修持融为一体，学而不修是口谈，修而无学是盲练。
“随法行则要研究经典，引发正见，启迪智慧，本之实践为主。贯通了闻、思、修三慧及信解、行、证的修行方法。”（见《遍能法师传》381页）这是遍老1991年在重庆慈云寺的开示，展现出老人对教理学习和宗教修持并重的坚定态度。因此，遍老面对莘莘学子郑重地提出“努力学修”的要求，从中我们更能领会遍老对僧才人才培养的原则，学僧不仅要注重知识和理论的学习，更应该具有良好的宗教道德修养。
四：德才兼备的教育目标──切莫为名僵利锁
人无论是生活在任何时候，无论是在任何岗位工作，都要面临“为人处事，待人接物”的生活和工作环境。而在生活和工作中，接踵而至的又有如何对待自己面对的“名闻利养”，乃至别人所取得的“名闻利养”等问题。在这些外在的社会环境中，稍有不慎，内心就会生起莫名的烦恼，更会因烦恼而染污内在的自心。遍老以一生的学修经验告诫学生：无论在学习和工作中有多大的成就，有多高的“名闻利养”，“切莫为名僵利锁，”都应以不受束缚的心境应对自己拥有的一切，才能成就个人的不凡人格。
中国文化有注重个人内心修养的传统，有崇高贤善的美德。历代智者在提高个人修养和升华个人美德的过程中，常常表现了对“名利”的豁达胸襟，从而成就自己的贤善品格。而佛教在对待这一问题的的立场是，于世而出世，出世而入世。换句话说，佛教在对待“名利”等世间法时，是以于“名利”而不为“名利”所牵挂的心态，善巧方便地实践大乘佛教利益人群的菩萨情怀。
遍老在自己70余年学修佛法的生涯中，正是以如此心态来安然处理纷至而来的“名闻利养”的。遍老不仅只是劝告自己的学生要保持这种修养，他自己一生也在实践这一理念。遍老生前曾在佛教界担任过重要的领导职务，也担任过不少社会职务，但他一直以泰然处之的心境，秉承“宴坐水月道场，大作梦中佛事”的精神，表现一位当代高僧卓尔不群的内心修养。“至于我个人的安排，请省方诸贤，无须考虑。我常聘名誉地位，过眼烟云，而况盛名之下，其实难副。古有贤言：图蜗角之虚名，闭人无之坦途。思之怃然！”（见《遍能法师传》385页）1985年，四川将在宝光寺举行解放以来首次传戒法会，这是遍老对法会师承事宜给弟子满慧回信的一段文字，从字的行间，我们能真切地感受到老人甜淡的内心修养，感受到老人对名利超然的人生态度。
又如在1983年，中国佛协在京召开成立三十五周年纪念大会，会议结束时，党和国家领导人接见与会代表，而对一位老法师坐在了大会为自己设在第一排的座位上时，工作人员万分焦虑，而遍老却说：“站着坐着不是一样照相吗？小同志，将心比心嘛，绝不能使别人下不了台！他身体不好，应该体谅照顾他才是嘛！”（见《遍能法师传》345页）朴实的语言，宽容的心量，从容的气度，一位不为物累的高僧形象如在眼前。
五：结语
在四川佛学院求学时，当时大部分学生的年龄都在二十出头，出家修学佛法的经验更是短缺。如此幼稚的学生，面对一位年近九旬，学修经验丰富，人生感悟深刻的教界硕德，所谓“一地不知二地事”，岂能知遍老苦心于万一？因此，遍老的这一遗联，学生中无能为对的原因也就自然可知了。
“高山仰止，景行行止！”笔者后来虽然离开了四川佛学院到他处求学，也离开了朝夕可以亲近的遍老。但随着年龄的增长，学习有所提高，对遍老的景仰之情也与日俱增。2000年的夏天，在普陀山佛学院静养的白光法师回到法源寺小住，笔者曾恳请白老为遍老遗联为对。当时想成就一件“三绝”作品，遍老所出上联，白老为对下联，想请茗山老法师书写整副联文。然世事终难遂人愿，白老很快站在学生的立场对了下联，由于茗老年事已高，常年多病，后又圆寂，终未成就“三绝”心愿。适值纪念遍老诞辰百周年之际，兹将遍老所出上联及白老所对下联抄录于此，与诸师友共同分享：
遍老上联：佛教正需才，劝诸君努力学修，切莫为名僵利锁。
白老下联：法门唯种竹，有我辈顶天立地，真堪作斗雪迎霜。
后来，索性请白老将上、下联一并书写，想以此激励自己，白老在书写中又增加了一段跋语，文曰：“遍能和尚撰联，公要学生为对，然皆为游学所误！公逝后四年，乃为所对。呜呼！公其有灵乎！记之所以。”其中，值得一提的是，白老将此联书写了两次，第二次书写，又增加了一段跋语，兹抄录于此：“数年前，四川遍老出联，让学子为对，数年来，皆为游学所误，无以报公之盼，其后公逝世回载；偈尔宗性同学语及，余乃试应之，惭愧不文，免以为之，是为纪进。以纪始末。”
知遍老者白老矣！白老的下联不仅对仗工作，而且寓意深刻，“法门唯种竹，有我辈顶天立地，真堪作斗雪迎霜。”不正是遍老倾其一生培养僧才的愿望吗？
怅望乌尤，绿影一堆；遥想南海，怒涛莲花。遍老之心，白老之意，犹如醒醐。笔者当铭记于心，鞭策和鼓舞自己在弘法的征程中为佛教事业的振兴而严格要求自己。 大厦将倾，一木难扶，佛教衰矣，恐难再兴！
